Many struggles can be seen by reading Wong's struggle to be an All American Girl. Wong wanted her readers to understand her struggles with being American on the inside, and Chinese on the outside. I feel Wong is speaking to young readers who may be going through some of the same experiences she did. These experiences include: walking to the school that lingered of mothballs or dirty closets, sitting in an empty auditorium in small chairs, and seeing the American flag, knowing what it stood for, and comparing it to the flag of her heritage. An intriguing fact about Wong is although she was Chinese, she still aimed to be the All American Girl. Wong was set free from the Chinese way of life allowing her to pursue her dream of being the All American Girl.
